Chelsea Virtual Learning Academy School Advisory Council

2024-25

 

The Chelsea Virtual Learning Academy School Advisory Council (SAC) is an advisory group to the school leader (principal) as mandated by the State Education Reform Act of 1993. Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C, a school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members, and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school.
 

The SAC is charged with supporting Chelsea Public Schools’ District Goals through writing and implementing the School Improvement Plan, reviewing the school district budget, and providing “general enhancement” for the school community. Members serve a one-year term, and meetings are held throughout the year. The SAC requires an equal representation of school personnel and parents and must contain at least one community member.
 

About School Advisory Councils
The law outlines four major areas of responsibility for school councils. School councils are to assist administrators in:

    • Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards.
    • Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school.
    • Reviewing the annual school building budget.
    • Formulating a school improvement plan.

Meetings for the 2024-25 School Year

Generally, meetings will take place on the 4th Monday every month through May from 2:45pm 3:45pm on the following dates: 9/24; 10/22; 11/25; 12/16*;1/27;  2/24; 3/24; 4/28; 5/19. The asterisks indicate the exceptions because of school vacation days.
